5 Things To Look For When Choosing A DSLR Camera Bag

I love photography. Over the last two years, I’ve saved to buy a new lens and am now in the market for a camera bag.

When choosing a camera bag there are 5 things you should look for.

1. How does it protect your camera?

2. Is there room for additional lenses?

3. How big or small do you need it? Is it for day use or for travel?

4. How does it function? Is there room for other items like an iPad or note books?

5. What’s the price?

1. How does it protect your camera?

Is it made of protective foam? Does it insulate the camera? What if were to fall?

Some camera bags are protected on the side, but not on the top. Be sure to look at all areas. Feel around, test it out.

2. Is there room for additional lenses?

Will you be shooting with just one lens or is there room for additional lenses?

3. Is the camera easily accessible?

How big or small do you need it? Is it for day use or for travel? If you’re like me, your juggling three things with a kid in your arm and unzipping a camera bag to get it out is a very involved process.

4. How does it function?

Is there room for other items like an iPad or note books? Will you use it as a purse or just as a camera bag?

5. What’s your budget?

There are some ok camera bags out there between $34 – $45 and increase with gadgets and whistles. For me it comes down to cost per use. If it’s something I will use everyday for the next five to ten years, then it’s worth paying a little extra money upfront and know that it will last. Versus the last camera bag we purchased and the zipper didn’t even last three years.

If you’ve ever shopped for a camera bag, they are all black and boring and not very versatile.

My last camera bag was a more triangle shaped one, but the zipper broke. I’ve had the square ones, but they are bulky.

I found this Swiss Army one at Best Buy that I like, but it’s still pretty industrial and rather boaring.

CaseCrown makes one that’s leather and nice, but not my style.

The camera bag that I WANT is from Shoot Sac. It’s called the tote and shoot. It’s pretty much amazing. You can tell it’s been well tested because they have thought of everything. I wrote about it back in 2010 when it was first announced (http://www.danishmama.com/2010/04/tote-and-shoot/) and have been following along with their updates.

Wouldn’t you love to take this for a test drive? I sure would! *sigh*

Tote and Shoot

Photography is a favorite past time of mine. I purchased a Shoot Sac last year and love it. You can store your lenses in the bag but you can also change the cover to match you mood. I naturally love the damask.

The designs are so classy and can be used for a man or a woman. The concept behind the bag is brilliant.

I’m really excited about this new bag from Shoot Sac that is perfect for the mom on the go. You can tote your camera, lenses and some snacks for the kiddos while your at it.
